What Questions Should You Ask an Exosome Supplier Before Buying?
Seven practical questions to ask an exosome supplier before buying: who manufactures it, EV source, batch documentation, particle measurement, characterization, storage and support.
Buying an exosome product shouldn't begin with:
“How many billion particles are in it?”
That's a reasonable question—but it's only one of several.
Before choosing an exosome supplier, ask questions that help you understand where the product comes from, who makes it, what testing supports it, and what happens between manufacturing and delivery.
Here are seven questions worth asking.
1. Who Actually Manufactures the Product?
Don't assume the company selling the product is the company manufacturing it.
Ask:
“Who manufactures this product, and where is it made?”
A legitimate distributor should be able to tell you who its manufacturing partner is rather than creating the impression that it owns a laboratory when it doesn't.

2. What Is the Source of the Extracellular Vesicles?
“Exosomes” describes a category—not a source.
EV preparations can originate from different biological materials and manufacturing approaches.
Ask:
“What is the biological source of this product?”
If cultured cells are involved, you may also want information about the cell source and manufacturing process.

Whatever product you're evaluating, the supplier should be able to clearly explain its source.
3. Can I See a Certificate of Analysis?
This should be one of your biggest questions:
“Can I see the batch-specific testing documentation?”
Don't stop at:
“Yes, it's lab tested.”
Ask to see the actual documentation.
Look for an identifiable lot or batch and meaningful characterization results rather than relying entirely on claims printed on a website.

4. How Was the Particle Count Measured?
Suppose one supplier says:
50 billion particles
and another says:
100 billion particles.
It can be tempting to assume the second product contains twice as much of what you want.
That's not necessarily a sound comparison.
Ask:
“What analytical method was used to generate the particle count?”
Different measurement technologies have different detection principles and limitations. Particle count also does not, by itself, establish that every detected particle is specifically an exosome. You don't need to understand the instrument in detail.
You simply want to know that the number being advertised is backed by an identifiable measurement rather than being just a marketing claim.
5. What Other Characterization Was Performed?
Next ask:
“Besides particle count, what else was measured?”
Useful documentation may include information about particle size, EV-associated markers and other characteristics of the preparation.
Why does that matter?
Because no single measurement tells you everything about an EV product.
A particle number alone provides much less information than multiple complementary forms of characterization considered together.

6. How Is the Product Stored and Shipped?
This one is easy to overlook until you've already placed the order.
Ask:
“How should the product be stored, and how will it be shipped to me?”
Then ask what you're supposed to do when it arrives.
A supplier should be able to give you clear handling instructions rather than leaving you to guess.

7. What Happens if I Have Questions After I Buy?
Finally, ask something surprisingly basic:
“Who do I contact if I have a question about my order or the product documentation?”
A website can look impressive before the sale.
What matters afterward is whether there's an identifiable company that can help with legitimate questions about documentation, ordering, shipping and handling.
For technical or clinical questions, also make sure the person answering them is actually qualified to do so.
A salesperson and a licensed healthcare professional do not have interchangeable roles.
A Supplier Should Be Comfortable With Questions
You shouldn't feel like you're interrogating someone simply because you ask:
- Who makes it?
- Where does it come from?
- Can I see the COA?
- How was the particle count measured?
- What other characterization was performed?
- How is it stored and shipped?
Those are reasonable questions when you're evaluating a biological product.
And pay attention to the quality of the answers.
A detailed answer isn't necessarily proof of a good product—but vague answers to basic questions should give you a reason to investigate further, as we note in our list of red flags when purchasing exosomes.

- Who stands behind the product after the sale?
A supplier doesn't need to have an answer to every scientific question imaginable.
But it should be able to give you clear, verifiable answers to the basic questions about what you're buying and where it came from.
