How Can You Tell if an Exosome Company Is Legitimate?

Practical due-diligence questions for evaluating an exosome supplier: who actually manufactures the product, what batch documentation exists, and how storage and fulfillment work.

A professional-looking website doesn't tell you where an exosome product came from.

Neither does a company calling itself a “lab.”

If you're considering purchasing an extracellular-vesicle product, one of the most important questions isn't simply what's printed on the vial.

It's:

Who actually made this product—and can the seller prove where it came from?

Here are some practical ways to evaluate an exosome company before you buy. These are due-diligence indicators and questions, not a legal or regulatory determination — a single unavailable item doesn't prove a company is illegitimate.

1. Identify the Actual Manufacturer

Start with a simple question:

Who manufactures the product?

The company selling an EV product may be the manufacturer, a distributor, or another type of seller. There's nothing inherently wrong with buying through a distributor.

What matters is transparency.

A legitimate distributor should be able to tell you who manufactures the product rather than creating the impression that it operates a laboratory when it doesn't.

2. Ask for a Batch-Specific Certificate of Analysis

A Certificate of Analysis, or COA, can provide valuable information about a specific production lot.

Look for information such as:

  • lot or batch identification
  • particle quantity
  • particle-size information
  • characterization methods
  • EV-associated markers
  • protein measurements
  • sterility testing
  • endotoxin testing
  • other applicable finished-product testing

But remember:

Having a document titled “COA” isn't enough by itself. A COA does not by itself establish legitimacy, safety, efficacy, purity, regulatory approval or exosome identity.

The information on it should be meaningful, traceable and understandable.

3. Look Beyond the Biggest Number

“100 billion exosomes.”

“200 billion exosomes.”

Large numbers are easy to advertise.

But ask:

Measured how?

Particle-counting technologies have different measurement principles and limitations, and particle count alone doesn't establish that every detected particle is an exosome.

A legitimate company should be willing to discuss the analytical method supporting its numbers.

A bigger number is not a substitute for better documentation.

4. Ask Where the Product Comes From

“Exosomes” isn't a biological source.

Ask whether the product is derived from:

  • a biological fluid
  • cultured cells
  • another identified source

Then ask what that source actually is.

If cultured cells are used, questions about cell type, expansion and passage history may become relevant.

5. Be Careful With Vague “Lab Tested” Claims

“Lab tested” sounds reassuring—but what does it mean?

Ask:

  • Which laboratory?
  • What was tested?
  • Which methods were used?
  • Were the results lot-specific?
  • Can you see the documentation?

A company doesn't necessarily need to publish every proprietary manufacturing detail.

But there is a major difference between protecting legitimate proprietary information and being unable to provide meaningful information about the finished product.

6. Verify Claims About Facilities and Credentials

If a company claims to own a laboratory, manufacture its own products, operate an FDA-registered facility, or hold particular certifications, don't assume the wording proves it.

Ask for specifics and verify important claims when possible.

Also remember that FDA registration is not the same thing as FDA approval.

The FDA currently states that there are no FDA-approved exosome products.

Be cautious if marketing language creates the impression that registration, inspection or another regulatory status means the FDA has approved an exosome product when it has not.

7. Look at Storage and Fulfillment

EV products can have specific storage and handling requirements.

Ask:

Who stores the product?

Who packages it?

How is it shipped?

What storage instructions are provided after delivery?

8. Watch for Claims That Sound Too Good to Be True

Be especially cautious when a seller promises specific medical outcomes or presents an EV product as an established treatment for diseases or medical conditions.

Testimonials, dramatic before-and-after stories and scientific terminology can sound convincing.

They're not substitutes for appropriate evidence.

A trustworthy seller should be willing to tell you what is known, what is documented and what cannot responsibly be claimed.

A Legitimate Company Should Welcome Good Questions

Transparency doesn't mean a company will disclose every proprietary manufacturing detail.

It means basic questions about the product shouldn't lead to a dead end.

Before purchasing, you should be able to investigate:

  • Who made it?
  • Where did it come from?
  • What lot am I buying?
  • What testing was performed?
  • Can I see the documentation?
  • How will it reach me?

If those questions repeatedly produce vague answers, that's useful information too.

Don't evaluate an exosome company based solely on its website, marketing language or the largest number printed on a vial.

Look for a traceable manufacturer, identifiable biological source, batch-specific documentation, meaningful characterization, finished-product testing and transparent storage and fulfillment information.
